Trivia

Mariah Carey was scheduled to film a cameo but her scenes were never filmed. Will Ferrell recalled that she showed up four hours late, then didn't want to do the scene she had agreed to do. She then delayed production by not wanting to sing the song (one of her own) that she was supposed to sing. This would have required the legal department to clear the song. Carey also required her trailer to be filled with white flowers and stuffed lambs. Carey's scene was ultimately not filmed. See more »

Goofs

Granted the movie was filmed prior to the 2016 election, it takes place in the summer of 2017 between Alex's graduation from high school and start of her freshman year at college. The Johansens state several times that they have a month to make Alex's tuition money. According to the financial statement Scott & Kate receive in the mail, the tuition is due on August 20, 2017. So we can presume that events in the film take place during the Summer of 2017. However, in one scene to test his sobriety, Kate asks Scott who is President. He mumbles Barack Obama, which Kate seems to affirm. However, Trump would have already been inaugurated President in January 2017. See more »

Quotes

Joe: [Gestures to the feminine sunglasses Scott is wearing] Are those women's sunglasses?
Scott Johansen: No, they're Italian.
Joe: [Gesturing to the thin long cigarette Scott is smoking] Well that's a woman's cigarette - that's nice.
Scott Johansen: No - also Italian. Italian sunglasses, Italian cigarettes.
Joe: Okay. Ciao!

Don't pay attention to the bad reviews.

Switch of for 90 mins. Enjoy a movie for what it is. Don't compare to others, criticise, judge or hold a candle. Just watch the movie with no bias and expectations and ask yourself at the end did I like it?

I did that and I enjoyed this movie. It made me laugh. Will and Amy were great as the quirky couple who will do anything to make sure their daughter gets a good start in life. The supporting cast were funny and believable (In that zany movie dimension) and I enjoyed the other characters as much as the main cast.

"Will it win an Oscar?" Hell no... "Will it go down in history?" I doubt it.... "Is it the funniest film ever?" No way.... But give it a try. It's ten thousand times better than most of the garbage that's been released this year.
