Rita Hudson accepts delivery of $35,000 worth of imported diamonds on behalf of her employer, Mr. Van Dyce. She is immediately abducted by thieves Ernest Zober and Chuck Barton, who received information concerning her movements from Lydia Stevens (Mr. Van Dyce's executive assistant). Dan Mathews and Sergeant Williams investigate and deduce that Rita was a victim rather than a perpetrator. They suspect that Lydia may be involved and Dan drops hints that that the Highway Patrol has a detailed description of Zober and Barton and their car. When Lydia panics, Zober and Barton decide to abandon her and go meet "Mr. Darrell", the prospective buyer of the gems. When Lydia realizes she has been duped and abandoned, she tells Dan all she knows. The information enables Dan and his officers to trap "Mr. Darrell" at a roadblock. They quickly locate Zober and Barton as well, and an armed confrontation ensues with Rita perilously near the line of fire.Written by

Often confused with other jewel robbery episodes of Highway Patrol
This is one of several episodes involving jewel thieves, including Gem Robbery Season 2 Episode 2, Gem Robbery (same name different story) Season 4 Episode 19, and Deadly Diamonds Season 4 Episode 9.
Given the same names, there is some confusion among a number of reviewers on IMDb, YouTube, and other websites. There are also several copies on YouTube that have the wrong title (for example, there is a copy of "Gem Robbery" from Season 4 on YouTube, it is listed as "Deadly Diamonds", also from Season 4.
If you are unsure of which episode you are watching, and you don't have the DVD notes, go to the credits that roll at the end of the show. Read the names of the actors and actresses. That will help you determine which episode you are watching!
