Charles Bradwell, a school janitor, is a man without a family to call his own. No wife. No kids. No relatives. Though this doesn't stop him from bragging to his friends about the large, happy family he has out in Indiana. After Michael Anthony provides him with his million dollar check, Charles later admits to his best friend, Woody, that all his stories about that happy family he has out in Indiana, never really existed. He only wished he had a family. Charles then hits on the idea of actually going to Indiana, the site of his fictional family, and find a real family to attach himself to. At random he picks the town of Rockwell, Indiana (don't look. There is no Rockwell, Indiana. There is however a Rockwell, Iowa) to travel to in order to pick a family he would like to be a part of. At a park, he runs across the Morrison family. Watching them talk and interact with each other, Charles picks them. He goes to the town library to do some background research on the Morrison's.
